Advanced Laser Treatment for an Enlarged Prostate

Expert HoLEP Care from an Experienced Specialist

Key Opinion Leader • Training Center • Physician Proctor

For over 16 years, I have specialized in advanced prostate laser surgery and have had the privilege of training and proctoring physicians in this advanced treatment technique FROM AROUND THE WORLD!

If you are struggling with urinary symptoms caused by an enlarged prostate, Holmium Laser Enucleation of the Prostate (HoLEP) may provide a durable, minimally invasive treatment option.

As a Key Opinion Leader (KOL) in HoLEP, I have performed more than 2,500 HoLEP procedures, bringing extensive experience and expertise to the treatment of benign prostatic enlargement (BPH).

My goal is simple: to provide advanced prostate care using modern techniques designed to relieve urinary obstruction while minimizing unnecessary recovery time.

What Is HoLEP?

HoLEP is an advanced laser procedure used to treat an enlarged prostate, also known as benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH).

Unlike traditional prostate procedures that remove only part of the enlarged tissue, HoLEP uses a laser to carefully enucleate and remove the obstructing prostate tissue, helping open the urinary channel.

Why Consider HoLEP?

HoLEP offers several potential advantages for appropriately selected patients:

  • Effective removal of obstructing prostate tissue

  • Long-lasting relief of urinary obstruction

  • Minimally invasive, performed through the natural urinary passage

  • No external incision

  • Can be used for prostates of a wide range of sizes, including very large prostates

  • Typically less bleeding than traditional surgical approaches

  • Short hospital or outpatient recovery for many patients

  • Shorter catheter time

  • Tissue is removed and can be sent for laboratory evaluation

Experience Matters :

More Than 2,500 HoLEP Procedures

HoLEP is a technically demanding procedure that requires specialized training and experience.

Having performed over 2,500 HoLEP procedures, I have developed extensive experience treating men with a broad range of prostate sizes, urinary symptoms, and medical histories.

As a KOL in HoLEP, I am also actively involved in advancing education and awareness of this technology among physicians and patients.

When it comes to HoLEP, experience matters.

Who May Be a Candidate for HoLEP?

HoLEP may be an option for men experiencing bothersome symptoms from an enlarged prostate, including:

  • Weak or interrupted urine stream

  • Difficulty starting urination

  • Frequent urination

  • Urgency

  • Getting up frequently at night to urinate

  • Feeling that the bladder does not completely empty

  • Urinary retention

  • Recurrent urinary tract infections related to prostate obstruction

  • Bladder stones associated with an enlarged prostate

HoLEP can also be considered for men with very large prostates, including patients who may not be ideal candidates for other minimally invasive prostate procedures.

Your medical history, prostate size, urinary symptoms, medications, and overall health will help determine whether HoLEP is appropriate for you.

What to Expect

Before Surgery

Your evaluation may include:

  • Medical history and discussion of urinary symptoms

  • Physical examination

  • Prostate evaluation

  • Urine testing

  • Assessment of urinary flow and bladder emptying

  • Review of medications, including blood thinners

  • Additional testing when appropriate

During HoLEP

HoLEP is performed under anesthesia. A specialized instrument is passed through the urethra, allowing the surgeon to use a holmium laser to separate and remove the enlarged prostate tissue that is blocking urine flow.

Because the procedure is performed through the urinary passage, there is no external surgical incision.

After Surgery

Recovery varies from patient to patient. Many men are able to return home the same day or after a short observation period.

It is normal to experience some urinary frequency, urgency, burning, or blood in the urine during the early recovery period. These symptoms generally improve as the urinary tract heals.

Your care team will provide detailed instructions regarding activity, hydration, medications, and follow-up.

HoLEP vs. Other Prostate Procedures

There are many treatments available for BPH, including medications, office-based procedures, traditional prostate surgery, and other laser techniques.

There is no single procedure that is right for every patient.

My approach is to evaluate your individual anatomy, prostate size, symptoms, medical history, and treatment goals before recommending the most appropriate option.

Why Choose an Experienced HoLEP Specialist?

HoLEP is a specialized procedure with a significant learning curve. Experience can be an important consideration when choosing a surgeon.
